This is going to be a quick post I’m making when watching the Colts vs Commanders game in London. I’m going to briefly talk about my thoughts from the games I watched yesterday; not everything that happened, just what I watched.
I watched a few things earlier in the day but I want to start with talking about the Yankees. That was an abysmal performance offensively. Rasmussen continues to own this lineup and the one hit we got was the worst thing I have seen on a baseball field in a while. In no world should Wells be trying to go to third there. Stay at second and let the next guy try and drive you in. You’re likely scoring on a single from second anyway and it is not worth the risk to try and go to third. Even if the next guy gets out, at least you’re also giving Luis Garcia Jr. a chance in the 9th. Just an awful decision by Wells. I did not expect to win game 1. I do expect to win game 2 with Schlittler on the mound. If we lose, then I’ll panic. But it is quite disappointing to lose game 1 when Cole and the bullpen arms we had to use only gave up 1 run. The game was within reach but the offense was horrifically bad. Tip the cap to Rasmussen, need to win game 2 tomorrow night.
I barely watched college football yesterday. Watched for about an hour until baseball playoffs started for the day. Since they expanded the College Football Playoff to 12 teams from 4, I have not cared about the regular season anymore. I prefer watching the NFL but college football was special due to how impactful every week was. Now I feel it doesn’t matter because you can afford to lose a game or two and still have a good chance if you’re from the SEC or one of the few elite Big Ten teams. So I will pay more attention to college football in late November probably but I really do not care about it anymore.
My focus for a while after was the White Sox at Guardians game. Chicago’s offense looked pretty good and Cleveland’s did not. That’s about all I have to say about that game. What a turnaround for Chicago and if they keep it going, they’ll be in the ALCS only two years removed from the worst record in a 162 game season ever. Dodgers vs Braves was up next. The game went as expected with a Dodgers victory but I could see the Braves making this a series with how their bats can wake up. They could cause Blake Snell problems tonight and then win a game in Atlanta with Sale on the mound. This series is far from over. Yankees were next and I already mentioned that game. Padres vs Brewers ended the night and was a great game. San Diego got Misiorowski out early but the Brewers fought back and took the lead. Then in the 9th the Padres hit a fly ball that was potentially getting out for a go-ahead home run but it hit the roof and fell down for an out. I think the ball would have gone foul but if it would have stayed fair I think it would have been a home run and a Padres victory. If I were a San Diego fan I would feel sick and it would be a loss that would take so long to get over. I would say a must win today with Michael King pitching. Very rarely do teams come back from down 2-0 so San Diego needs to win this afternoon.
I also tuned in and watched some of the US vs Mexico men’s soccer match last night since those are always intense matches. The US won 3-0 and the young guys looked great. Winning against Mexico in soccer is always great, but 3-0? When two teenagers score for us? Incredible showing. 18 year old Julian Hall scored his 3rd career national team goal in his 3rd appearance. He scored last week against Peru and Chile and then Mexico last night. 17 year old Cavan Sullivan had his first career USMNT goal last night not even a week after turning 17. It was from about 35 yards out and was a beauty. Then for the final goal, Malik Tillman scored a wonderful goal that the TNT broadcast didn’t show live since they were too busy showing a replay. Besides not showing that goal live, it was a great game for us.
Finally, I’m trying to watch a lot more hockey this year. The last few years I have primarily watched the entire postseason with a handful of Sharks games mixed in. This year I’m trying to watch the majority of the Sharks games and so far I have watched both of them. I’ve been a Sharks fan for years but hockey has never been my top priority to watch but Celebrini has made me want to watch nearly every game. I will admit I am a casual fan so I am far from the best source for hockey analysis. But I am enjoying the season and hoping for a playoff berth this year. The team has improved from last year and finished only 4 points back last year. So hopefully the Sharks contend for the Pacific title this year and make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Last night’s game was fun, went up 3-1, blew it, went to overtime tied at 4, and won in overtime on Igor Chernyshov’s second goal of the game. Rookie Ivar Stenberg had his first career point. Celebrini added two assists, bringing his total to 5 in two games so far. Even though there has been a blown lead in both games so far, the team has managed to win both. It’s far from perfect but it is so much better of a start than last year. 4 points is 4 points and I’ll take it. I probably won’t watch as much on Monday night since the Yankees have game 2 that will overlap a bit, but I will definitely watch a bit after the Yankees game is done. I have a good feeling about the Sharks this year, they’re fun to watch and I think they’ll make the playoffs with Macklin contending again for the Hart Trophy. The future is teal.
Let me know in the comments if there were any great games I missed that I should check out the highlights for and let me know your thoughts on what you watched. Time to get back to watching this London game and then the NFL slate for the day. Detroit doesn’t play until the night game so it’s going to be a long day. Thank you for reading and enjoy your NFL Sunday. Score prediction for tonight: Lions 31 Panthers 21.
